We’ve put together a list of Firefox tools which make web design and web development much faster; and since time is money these tools could save you a fortune!

  • Firebug – Edit, Debug and Monitor a websites HTML / CSS / Javascript
  • Colorzilla – Advanced eyedropper and color-picker, lie the color that web site uses? Steal it!
  • Measureit – A great tool for creative sites, draw a ruler accross an element on a webpage to measure the pixels
  • Screengrab – Screengrab saves entire web pages as images. This tool will allow You to take screenshots of what is currently on your screen – you can even choose the portion of the screen you want to “grab”!
  • SEO for Firefox -Excellent plugin for all those, who like to watch statistics right into Google and Yahoo search results. You can get Alexa, Google PageRank, Tehnorati rankings and many other useful data.
  • Dummy Lipsum – This add-on generates automatic “Lorem Ipsum” dummy text. A pretty useful tool if you need to quickly check how a site looks with content.
  • Autofill Forms or Fireforms -Two add-ons which automatically fill feilds in online content forms. This is particularly useful for semi-automating link building for SEO.

Firefox vs Internet Explorer

Why do so many people continue to use Internet Explorer for their web browsing needs? In my experience I’ve found it to be sluggish and ugly, never mind the fact that it simply refuses to acknowledge modern web design standards.

Here’s a quick example; if you’re viewing this page using Firefox, all of our fancy buttons like the one below with have an awesome fade effect on hover:

However, if you’re using Internet Explorer you’ll see a plain old button with no dynamic effects.

Switch to Firefox (even Chrome will do!), Web Designers everywhere will thank you!
